The 11th Armoured division attack the Norman hills
Operation Cobra enables the Americans to break through the German frontline west of Saint-Lô in Normandy. On 25 July 1944, as the front stabilises around Caen, General Montgomery launches offensive Blue coat, with two hills close to Saint-Martin-des-Besaces and to Mont Pinçon as objectives. The British launch the attack on July 30 in a hills and valleys landscape. On 31 July, the 11th Armoured division of General Roberts destroys the German anti-tank guns trying to slow down their advance, and capture the important crossroad in Saint-Martin-des-Besaces.
