As the battle of the Falaise pocket was coming to an end, the 79th
American Infantry Division spanned the river Seine near Mantes on

German troops. The Allied Forces fought against the 5th Panzer-Armee,
composed of several Army Corps remnants, and of the Ist and the IInd
SS Panzer-Korps, evacuated from the Falaise pocket. The Ist British
Corps progressed toward Pont-l’Evêque and Pont-Audemer,
while the IInd Canadian Corps advanced toward Bernay and Elbeuf on
22 August. On 24 August the British liberated Lisieux et cross the
river Touques, Blangy-le-Château and Le Breuil-en-Auge were
liberated by the Allied troops.
