The Panzer-Lehr Division arrived in Normandy
After the liberation of Bayeux, General Graham launched on 8 June toward Villers-Bocage the 200 tanks of the 8th Armoured Brigade and the infantry of the 151st Brigade. Facing them, one regiment of the 352nd Infantry Division, the Germans collapsed under the bulk of the British armoured. In the evening, the British reached Saint-Pierre near Tilly-sur-Seulles, and Chouain was liberated. But on 9 June, a new crack armoured division arrived in the area : the Panzer-Lehr Division. The Germans counter-attacked at once in the same time as the Allied Forces. Five kilometers short of Bayeux, General Bayerlein was ordered to break off. The division renewed the attack toward Tilly-sur-Seulles, they tok back Chouain. The fighting turned finally to the advantage of the 8th Brigade Sherman, the panzer were stopped on hill 103. Chouain was liberated again by the British. The Germans withdrew and established a defense line around Tilly-sur-Seulles.


 
     
 
British Cemetery
The smallest British cemetery in France. 46 British soldiers and 1 Czech soldier are buried there; they were killed at Chouain in the first days of the Landing.
