General Montgomery welcomed General Eisenhower
On 6 June 1944, the 69th British Infantry Brigade landed on Gold Beach in Normandy. The 7th Green Howard crossed Ver-sur-Mer meeting no resistance. In the afternoon the British liberated Crépon with the support of a just landed artillery regiment. They lost some tanks in spanning the river Seulles, then they captured Creully and Lantheuil. The 7th Green Howard made the junction with the Canadians of the Winnipeg Rifles who had landed on Juno Beach, and had just liberated Tierceville. General Montgomery, Commander of the 21st Army Group, settled out his headquarters in the castle of Creullet, near Creully. There, he welcomed General de Gaulle on 14 June and General Eisenhower on 15 June.
