HABLOVILLE Orne - 15 km nord-ouest d’Argentan
The SS troops fought fiercely to move out of the pocket
On August 1944, the 7th German Army was being encircled. The Germans had had a hard defensive battle on the flanks of the pocket to enable maximum of troops and vehicles to evacuate it. They used every natural obstacles to delay the Allied Forces progression like the river Orne. They destroyed the bridges when all the German troops have crossed. The remnants of the 10th SS Panzer-Division put this strategy into practice, as they crossed the river at night. In the morning of 18 August, they moved toward Habloville; each hour and day gained represented more soldiers and vehicles escaping from the encirclement. The following day, at the end of the morning, Habloville was liberated as the Germans went on retreating.

This 105 mm gun was a field howitzer, it was very appreciated by the Wehrmacht gunners, excepted for its important weight.
