The Allied forces have to enlarge the bridgehead
On 9 June 1944, the Landing is successful, but it needs to be consolidate. Thousands of troops, vehicles and huge amounts of supply are set ashore on the beaches; the lack of place becomes crucial. General Collins decides to cut off the Cotentin peninsula to enlarge the bridgehead, and mostly to seize Cherbourg harbor, key of the Allied forces supplies. On 12 June the bolt of Carentan is broken; on 16 June the 9th American Infantry division cross the river Douve under the German fire, and establish a bridgehead. In the night, reinforcements and supply are sent, and the following day the 60th Infantry Regiment liberate Nehou and Magneville.
