On 9 June General Gerow commanding the Vth American Corps expanded Omaha Beach bridgehead. The 29th Infantry Division commanded by General Gerhardt spanned the marshes of the Aure southward, and pushed back the remnants of several German units. On 10 June to the west, Isigny-sur-mer was liberated by infantry of the 175th Regiment and tanks of the 747th Tank Battalion. To the south the Americans formed a defensive line on the river Elle with the 115th Regimental Combat Team. To the west the 175th Regimental Combat Team assembled east of the river Vire, from Isigny-sur-Mer to La Fotelaie. Neuilly-la-Forêt was liberated but stayed on the front line.
