ROTS
Calvados - 10 km west of Caen Panzers
against British anti-tanks
West of Caen the Canadians and the Germans were facing each other
both sides of the the N 13 main road and the Paris-Cherbourg railway.
On 8 June 1944 in Bretteville-l'Orgueilleuse, twenty-five tanks leaded
by the SS Hitlerjugend Division Commander, SS Standartenführer
Kurt Meyer, ran up against the Regina Rifle’s anti-tanks guns.
Attacks and counter-attacks followed one another, at the end the Germans
must drive back. In Rots the 46th British Royal Marines commandos
struggled hand to hand against the 26th Regiment 1st company of the
Hitlerjugend Division. The tanks of Fort Garry Horse fought in individual
combat against the Panther through the narrow streets of the town.
Rots is taken to the SS on 12 June, the German grenadiers leave 122
