The Hitlerjugend assault waves were stopped dead

Three Army Corps were commited in the Operation Epsom launched on 26 June 1944 west of Caen. The VIIIth Corps under General O' Connor’s led the attack ordered by General Montgomery. At dawn of 26 June the 44th Lowland Brigade of the 15th Scottish Infantry Division was assigned to take Saint-Manvieu-Norrey. The Scots entered the town, the figting were furious between the young Hitlerjugend SS grenadiers and the 6th Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers. The SS thought the British shot down all the prisoners. The Scots had to use the flame thrower tanks to break the German's assault waves. On 26 June at midday the Scots held the town but were still shelled by German rockets and mortars.
