The 7th Canadian Brigade landed on 6 June 1944 in Courseulles-sur-Mer and Graye-sur-Mer. At 11 a. m. two companies of the Regina Rifles Regiment entered Reviers. Meanwhile the Canadians had raging battle to seize Courseulles-sur-Mer. In mid-afternoon the soldiers of the Régiment de La Chaudière obtained the surrender of a hundred German soldiers in Colomby-sur-Thaon, they liberated the town without fighting. In Thaon a German artillery company installed in the town had withdrawn hastily in the night of 5-6 June, the Canadians penetrated in Thaon cleared off in the morning of 7 June. But until 15 July German artillery had been shelling Thaon, causing casualties in the Norman population and killing several Canadian soldiers.
